What Makes an AI Chat Widget Actually Convert

Good AI chat feels like a knowledgeable employee. Bad AI chat feels like a pop-up ad.

Almost every AI chat widget we've audited in the past year has the same three problems: it opens uninvited, it asks the visitor what they want instead of understanding context, and it hands off to email the moment a real question comes in. We fix those three things every time.

Rule one: know what page you're on

A visitor on a pricing page has a different intent than one on a blog post. Our widgets read the page context and open with relevance: on a pricing page, it offers a walkthrough. On a service page, it answers "can you do X." On a blog post, it stays quiet unless summoned.

Rule two: answer, don't deflect

If a visitor asks "what time do you open on Sundays?" — the widget should answer. It should know the answer. It should not say "let me get someone for that." This requires a real knowledge base, not just a system prompt. We build that knowledge base with every SmartSite.

Rule three: close the loop

Answer, then offer the next step. If the answer was about pricing, offer to start a scope. If it was about hours, offer the next available appointment. If it was about a service, offer a booking link. The chat isn't the destination — it's the highway.

What we ship

On every Glowout location page: a chat widget trained on that location's specific hours, services, staff, and booking URLs. It answers questions in the brand voice, surfaces the right booking link, and logs the conversation to the CRM for sales follow-up. When we built it, we tested every question we could think of. When we deployed it, it started handling most of them on day one.
